Multistability of Small Reaction Networks

چکیده

For three typical sets of small reaction networks (networks with two reactions, one irreversible and reversible reaction, or reversible-reaction pairs), we completely answer the challenging question “What is smallest subset all multistable such that any network outside contains either more species reactants than in this subset?"

Multistability of genetic regulatory networks

5 Multistability is found to be an important recurring theme in synthesis biology. In this article, the multistability analysis problem is investigated by applying control theory and mathematical tools. Both the modelling and analysis issues are discussed. Specifically, the genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with multistability are modelled as switched systems with interval time-varying delays ...

Graph-theoretic Analysis of Multistability and Monotonicity for Biochemical Reaction Networks

Mathematical models of biochemical reaction networks are usually high dimensional, nonlinear, and have many unknown parameters, such as reaction rate constants, or unspecified types of chemical kinetics (such as mass-action, Michaelis-Menten, or Hill kinetics). On the other hand, important properties of these dynamical systems are often determined by the network structure, and do not depend on ...

Controlling Multistability by Small Periodic Perturbation

A small perturbation of any system parameters may not in general create any significant qualitative change in dynamics of a multistable system. However, a slow-periodic modulation with properly adjusted amplitude and frequency can do so. In particular, it can control the number of coexisting attractors. The basic idea in this controlling mechanism is to introduce a collision between an attracto...

Cellular compartments cause multistability in biochemical reaction networks and allow cells to process more information

Many biological, physical, and social interactions have a particular dependence on where they take place. In living cells, protein movement between the nucleus and cytoplasm affects cellular response (i.e., proteins must be present in the nucleus to regulate their target genes). Here we use recent developments from dynamical systems and chemical reaction network theory to identify and character...

Multistability in networks of Hindmarsh-Rose neurons.

We investigate the dynamical states of a two-dimensional network of Hindmarsh-Rose spiking neurons, in the vicinity of the current threshold where the single neuron becomes active. Each neuron is electrically coupled with neurons in its close neighborhood. The existence of multistable synchronization states is established and discussed. We also show that, provided adequate initial conditions, t...
